Jose Porcel began playing together while they were in middle school. The drummer use to listen to cassette tape constantly as a child. The lead singer used to fall asleep with a CDplaying as a kid. Jose Porcel began playing at the college bar Guru. The group was influenced by the blues.

Often times critics will praise Jose Porcel for their ability to connect with the crowd when they perform live. A music critic from Philadelphia, Ralph Noonan, has always been a fan of band’s terrific bassist. Jose Porcel’s most current record has received inspiring praise from all the critics, including Jacob Cochrane from Atlanta and Samuel Gitlewski from Louisville.
Jose Porcel met with a local DJ from Z94.5 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the band. The groupwas headlining shows soon after they started playing live. Jose Porcel’s first release climbed the charts quickly, giving them national exposure. The group is mobbed by fans at every show.
Jose Porcel knew that they were truly working musicians after the band’s first fan club was started by Shirley Rastetter in 1998. The band embraced the small fan club and with the launching of the band’s own website by Anna Noonan and a well marketed national tour the club quickly grew to a few thousand.
Every time the band comes to Pittsburgh they are sure to stop at Beach and play a show. Jose Porcel's concerts always have the audience singing by the end of the show.
