kaki king’s members met in 1979. The bassist was heavily influenced by his sister's love for music. The drummer was encouraged to play by his favorite teacher. kaki king began playing at the local dive bar Beach. Dolly Parton heavily influenced the early work of the group.

Even after getting the record deal kaki king were not sure if they would make it in the end. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in the smaller clubs in which they started. kaki king talked to a local music director from Q96.9 and got their single on air. The girlfriend of a record executive heard the song and soon after kaki king was signed. The band's members had horrible jobs when they started playing, just biding time until they would hit the big time.

kaki king intends to spend some time apart after this next tour, allowing the band members to rest after a long year. The band is in the beginning of the tour promoting for their most current project. The newest project from kaki king is the band's second project.
