Kapowski began playing together in 1989. The band used to sell their CDs out of their car at school. Kapowski began singing in clubs. The guitarist used to fall asleep with a recordplaying as a teenager.

Kapowski was discovered while joking around, performing on the street one day. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather perform in the smaller clubs in which they started.

Kapowski realized that they could really have a career in music after the band’s first fan club was started by Sarah Kaplan in 1987. The fan club may have just started out with a few members that followed the band when the played in small clubs, but it quickly grew to thousands after the group released its first album and started touring nationally.

The new project from Kapowski is the group's ninth album.

The group is in the first leg of the promotional tour for their most current record.

Generally, critics have commended Kapowski for their playfulness with the crowd during live performances. Raleigh music critic Michael Phillippe has always pointed out band’s terrific hooks. Kapowski’s new project is receiving generally positive reviews from Ed Prather, a music critic out of Baltimore, and Neal Geanopulos, from Pittsburgh.
