Kassav began singing at the college club Hell's Halo. Music of the 1950s heavily influenced the early work of the band. Kassav’s members met in high school. The lead singer used to listen to his grandmother's record constantly as a child.
Kassav continued to work hard, scared they would just be another one hit wonder. Kassav was discovered while joking around, performing on the street one day.
Kassav realized they made it as soon as the band’s first fan club was started in 1991 by Shirley Rastetter. The fan club may have just started out with a few members that followed the band when the played in small clubs, but it quickly grew to thousands after the group released its first album and started touring nationally.
Kassav's newest release is a refinement of their familiar sound. The band is in the beginning of the tour promoting for their new project. Kassav hope this tour and the most current record attracts a new group of fans.
