Keith Urban Tickets
Keith Lionel Urban was born October 26, 1967 in Whangarei, New Zealand, though later moved with his parents to Caboolture, Queensland, Australia. He is a New Zealander-Australian country singer who is extremely successful in the United States. At age 6, he learned how to play the guitar and dropped out of high school to pursue his musical career. In 1991, Urban released his self-titled debut album for EMI Australia and has four chart-topping hits like “I Never Work on a Sunday.” He later came to the U.S. and formed The Ranch with his drummer Peter Clarke and West Virginian Jerry Flowers. In 1997, they released their self-titled debut album; their single, “Walkin’ the Country” had some success. The band members went their separate ways soon after. Urban went on to play as a session musician on albums like Garth Brooks’ Double Live and Dixie Chicks’ Fly.
In 1999, he released his self-titled debut album, Keith Urban, and it went gold in the U.S. The album featured a fast-paced instrumental, “Rollercoaster,” on which he plays a ganjo, a combination of a guitar and banjo. In 2000, he had his first major hit, “It’s a Love Thing.” In 2002, “Somebody like You” continued the success. In 2004, his album, Be Here, was released and nominated for a Grammy. Touring as a supporting act for well-known country acts Brooks & Dunn and Kenny Chesney perfected Urban's skills and stage-craft. Country video channel CMT signed on as the sponsor of Urban's first headlining tour entitled Keith Urban Be Here '04 with Katrina Elam as his opening act. Urban continued his rapid rise to fame in 2005 with a very popular tour with Elam called Alive in '05. The Gap chose him to appear along with seven other musical personalities in their “Favorites” campaign.
He has achieved seven number one songs in the United States so far and has a total of sixteen top ten hits, which include "Somebody Like You," "You'll Think of Me," "Days Go By," "Making Memories of Us," "Stupid Boy," and "Better Life." He recently performed “Better Life” at the CMA Awards and “You’ll Think of Me” at the American Music Awards. He also performed “You’ll Think of Me” and “The Lucky One” with Faith Hill at the Grammys and “Tonight I Wanna Cry” at the 2006 ACM Awards, where he also played guitar for “Believe,” with Brooks & Dunn. He also performed with Alicia Keys at one of Al Gore’s Live Earth concerts on July 7, 2007. He stated in an interview that global warming is not a political issue and he will be running all bio-diesel buses in his Love, Pain and the Whole Crazy World Tour.
