Just out of East Tennessee State University with an advertising degree and a notion to become a singer, Kenny Chesney was signed at the age of 24 by BMI and Opryland Music Group.
While his Kenny Chesney’s early material produced hit songs like “Fall In Love” and “Grandpa Told Me So”, it was not until his second album, All I Need to Know, that he broke into the gold certification. He quickly followed with the platinum Me and You in 1996 and I Will Stand in 1997.
Kenny Chesney’s fourth album, I Will Stand, also won him the ACM New Male Vocalist of the Year in 1997. While he remained popular, it was not until the 21st century that he really became an icon in country music. He picked up an ACM Top Male Vocalist of the Year in 2002 for No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem which went platinum four times over and followed it with an Album of the Year Award and Entertainer of the Year Award from CMA fro the multi-platinum When the Sun Goes Down.
His successes on the Billboard charts and at the register have translated to big concerts. The 2007 Flip-Flop Summer Tour ended the as the highest grossing country tour in 2007. The incredible fan fare was recognized by the award shows, as he was named the 33rd People’s Choice Awards Favorite Male Singer, the ACM Entertainer of the Year, and the CMA Entertainer of the Year in 2007.
