K.I.Z. began performing at the college dive bar Philosophy. The band used to practice at the guitarist's basement. The members of K.I.Z. grew up together. The drummer was influenced by his mom's love of music.

K.I.Z. met with a local DJ from Z95.5 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the group. The group's members had horrible jobs when they started playing, just biding time until they would hit the big time.

K.I.Z. realized that they were real working musicians when the band’s first fan club was started in 1988 by Deb Hemmingway. The fan club grew quickly from a few dozen members in a few cities to a few thousand across the nation.

The new record from K.I.Z. has taken the band in a quite different direction, with a more refined sound. The band is in the first leg of the promotional tour for their most current album. Members of K.I.Z. hope this tour and the latest project attracts a new audience.
