The members of La Banda Skalavera grew up together. The group used to practice at the drummer's house. La Banda Skalavera began singing at the college club Diva. The bassist wanted to start a band since he was in middle school.

The group may have just finished their latest album, but they are plotting their next move already. La Banda Skalavera intends to spend some time apart after the tour, allowing the band members to recharge after a long year.

La Banda Skalavera were unsure about their music careers with the release of their first single, and were relieved after their music began climbing the charts ad getting lots of play on the radio. The years of paying their dues paid off when La Banda Skalavera signed a record deal.

La Banda Skalavera finally realized they made it after Rebecca Easley started the first fan club for the group in 1981. The fan club started out small with just a handful of members, generally localized to the area around Champaign, but the creation the group’s website by Kathy Verlinden, along with the first real national marketing campaign, saw the membership to grow into the thousands.
