Less than Jake Tickets
The power punk troupe Less Than Jake has brought there collaboration of power punk and a horn section since the group formed in 1992. The band has understands that its audience wants to hear songs at breakneck speed and appreciate the groups sense of humor.
Less Than Jake was originally Good Grief, and the five-member crew originally only had three. Then just singer and guitarist Chris Demakes, drummer Vinnie Fiorello, and bassist Shaun Grief, the band broke up when Demakes went away to college at the University of Florida. Demakes and Fiorello would collaborate soon again, but Grief moved to New York.
Demakes and Fiorello began writing songs and wanted to find another bassist to start performing again. The two musicians decided that they would need a name to start a serious search, so they find inspiration in Fiorello’s dog, Jake. Jake was the best treated living thing in his household, so the group decided they were Less Than Jake.
With the addition of a bassist was followed by the addition of a horn and trombone player in 1993. By 1995 the players released their first full-length studio album, Pezcore (inspired by their love of Pez). The album spurred attention from major labels, and Less Than Jake signed with Capitol Records. The following year, the group released their second full-length album, Losing Streak.
Losing Streak peaked at number 18 on the charts and made Less Than Jake more than just a periphery band in the ‘90s music scene. The band toured, building an audience, and found a college audience with singles from their next album, Hello Rockview. “History of a Boring Town” made it to number 39 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks, but conflicts between the band and Capitol Records led to a split.
It would take a few years and another studio album, Borders and Boundaries, before Less Than Jake returned to a major label. With Sire Records they returned to the charts with Anthem and In With the Out Crowd.
Now, Less Than Jake tours and records with Chris Demakes as the lead singer and guitarist, Roger Mangenelli as the bassist and co-lead singer, Vinne Fiorello as the drummer, Buddy Schaub as the trombonist, and Peter Wasilewski as the saxophonist.
