Los Straitjackets Tickets

Los Straitjackets is a band from Nashville, popular mainly for performing instrumental rock & roll music. Guitarists Eddie Angel and Danny Amis, bassist Pete Curry, and drummer Jason Smay make up the band, and they play DiPinto guitars. The band has been enthralling their fans by producing their own rendition of energetic surf guitar twang complete with Mexican wrestling masks.

In 1988, the trio Angel, Amis and Jimmy Lester started the instrumental band called, the Straitjackets in Nashville. They played many gigs throughout the summer that year, but towards the end they broke up. After six years, the trio reformed the group, and called it Los Straitjackets. Bass player Scott Esbeck, was added to the line up. In 1995 they issued their maiden album, The Utterly Fantastic and Totally Unbelievable Sound of Los Straitjackets, on Upstart Records. After the release of their album, the band performed their first out-of-town show at the South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, TX. The same year the band embarked on their first major tour of the US. The band was a big one for stage shows, with their tight instrumentation and gimmicky stage shows, within few years the band was able to increase its fan following. While on stage the band members all dressed similar; they wore black clothing, gold medallions, and Mexican wrestling masks. Amis in his badly accented Spanish would introduce the songs, endearing him to the fans. By the end of the year they were featured on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on NBC Television. In 1996 the band got nominated for three awards at the 2nd annual NAMMIE awards, in the Best Group, Best Rock Album, and Best Album Cover category, although they did not win any of it. In June the same year the band releases its sophomore album, Viva Los Straitjackets. They were once again invited on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on NBC Television. They also made an appearance on the very popular TV show Pacific Blue on the USA Network. In 1997, the bands first video, Outta Gear was aired by MTV. The band also hit the road with the legendary Link Wray, and the same year they embarked on their maiden foreign tour of Spain. In 1998 Scott Esbeck quit the band, and Pete Curry of The Halibuts on Bass replaced him. The band released their much-awaited third album, The Velvet Touch of Los Straitjackets in 1999, and hit the road to promote it.

Los Straitjackets collaborate frequently with other artists for their Sing Along With Los Straitjackets; they had worked with many different artists. They got a Grammy nomination for their collaboration with blues singer Eddy Clearwater, Rock 'N' Roll City. With the passage of time, they have improvised and elaborated their stage shows. Their shows generally have elaborate choreography, guest vocalists such as Clearwater, Kaiser George of the Scottish band the Kaisers, and Big Sandy, and burlesque dancing troupe, the popular Pontani Sisters.

Apart from the live shows and albums, Los Straitjackets gave some of the music for the independent film Psycho Beach Party, and appeared briefly in the film.
