Lyfe Jennings was born Chester Jennings in Toledo, Ohio in 1978. Lyfe is popular as a platinum-selling African American R&B and soul singer-songwriter, record producer, and instrumentalist. He is a master at playing the guitar, bass, and piano and he incorporates all this into his music. He is also a member of the band called Natural Born Killers with Nyce & KG, who are presently signed to Infamous Records.

He was interested in music since a young age and he began his musical career as a young boy in a church in Toledo, OH. His increasing love for music resulted in him joining a group that comprised two of his cousins and his elder brother. After his departure from the group Lyfe continued his interest in music. As put forward in the song "Ghetto Superman" The Phoenix, Lyfe lost his father at an early age. At the age of 14 he went to prison. Prison didn't bring any pause to his musical career; rather he discovered his true love for music only after being there. Emotional circumstances led to emotional music. He believed music to be a precious medium through which he could express his feelings in an unemotional environment. After his return from jail he transformed into a totally different personality. He started playing the guitar, sung, wrote and even began a music program in the Ohio institution. With his release of December 2002 he made a breakthrough into his solo career. He spent his 2nd day of freedom recording a 4 song CD and the 3rd day performing at a club.

By the end of 2003, Lyfe's talents were experienced by a nation-wide audience on "Showtime In Harlem" (The Apollo). There he achieved a standing ovation for his outstanding performance of original material, and made his name by winning the amateur competition five times. After being well received at the Apollo, Lyfe started to independently sell his EP "What Is Love". Two songs from the EP, "What Is Love" & "She Got Kids", were frequently rotated on local radio, which assisted in the sale of thousands of EP's.

With the peaking success, Lyfe started receiving invitations from numerous agents, promoters and record labels, which motivated him to move to NYC to make his dreams come true. Immediately after Lyfe arrived in New York, he composed and co-produced a song for a remarkable label, made a cameo in a music video, came out in publications and performed a legion of solo shows and opening acts for notable recording artists. One of the most unforgettable includes the opener in front of a sold out crowd at Radio City Music Hall for Hip-Hop star Nelly, and his spontaneous serenade to New Yorkers during the October 14th blackout at The Cafeteria in Chelsea. Other remarkable venues and concerts comprise 2003 NBA All-Star events, NAACP Convention where he presented "Thank God for the NAACP", world famous B.B. King's Lounge & Grill, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Tennessee State University and a host of clubs and schools. Presently working with notable producers, he continues to entertain with his appealing performance.
