M-16 began playing together while they were in grade school. The guitarist was heavily influenced by his grandmother's love for music. The drummerdiscovered his love of music by listening to his sister's collection of records. M-16 began playing at Beach, a local club. The group asked the local radio station to play their single.
got K99.9 to start playing their single and had their friends call in to request the song. A record executive heard it one day and immediately signed the group. The band members were relieved to have the opportunity to make an album and quit their day jobs that supported them while they worked hard at night to make their dreams happen. M-16 were convinced their hard work had paid off after their first single rose to the top of the charts.
M-16 accepted that they were real working musicians in 1984, after Kathy Hornstrom started the band’s first fan club. The fan club grew quickly from a few dozen members in a few cities to a few thousand from New York to California.
M-16's newest release has taken the band in a quite different direction, with a bigger sound. The group is in the second leg of the tour accompanying for their latest album. M-16 will take some time off after the tour, allowing the group members to rest after a long tour.
Generally critics will commend M-16 for their ability to connect with the audience during concerts. Omaha music critic Phil Van Hoos has always been a fan of band’s incredibly talented drummer.
