Mad Professor started playing at the college club Thrill. One of the group's members used to listen to his family's collection of records constantly as a kid. Mad Professor’s members met in 1981. The group was influenced by the Rolling Stones.

Mad Professor’s first album did not do so well, but the second album was a hit, going gold. Mad Professor was discovered while performing at at Beach, a local dive bar.

Mad Professor intends to take a break after this next tour, allowing the group members to work on individual projects. The band is in the beginning of the promotional tour for their newest project. Mad Professor's newest release is the group's first record since the band broke up three years ago.
