The members of Manhattan Transfer met in high school. The drummer was encouraged to play by his uncle. Manhattan Transfer started playing at Anyplace, a local bar. Music of the 1950s heavily influenced the early work of the group.
Manhattan Transfer’s first album did not do so well, but the second album was a hit, going gold. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather perform in the smaller venues which they began. Manhattan Transfer was discovered while joking around, performing on the street one day. The band's members all had odd jobs while they worked hard to be known.
Manhattan Transfer knew they made it as soon as Kathy Emerson started a fan club for the band in 1976. Initially the band only had a few fans from Dallas in the club, but after playing all across the country the fan club’s membership exploded to a few thousand.
The latest release is 's first project since the band broke up seven years ago. The band recently finished their latest record, and they are planning the next release already. Manhattan Transfer will take a break after this next tour, allowing the band members to pursue other projects.
