Mickey Hart began playing at Beach, a college dive bar. The drummer wanted to start a group since he was in grade school. The lead singer use to listen to records constantly as a teenager. Mickey Hart began playing together while they were in college. Aretha Franklin heavily influenced the early work of the group.
