The members of Naked grew up together. The lead singer first found his love of music by listening to his grandmother's record collection. The drummer wanted to start a group since he was in college. Naked started performing at Demonstrator, a college dive bar. The Mamas and the Papas heavily influenced the early work of the group.

Naked was discovered while playing at at Chamber, a local dive bar. The members of the band all quit their other jobs to focus on their music. Naked’s first album did not do so well, but the second album was a hit, going platinum.
