Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas’s members grew up together. The lead singerdiscovered his love of music by listening to his brother's music collection. The guitarist use to listen to cassette tapes constantly as a kid. Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas began singing at Anyplace, a local club. Earth, Wind, and Fire heavily influenced the early work of the group.

Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas were sure that they would make it after signing the record deal. They had heard stories of others still failing, but were sure they would be one of those bands. Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas was discovered after single was played on K102.5.

Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas accepted they had finally made it after Susan Nicodemus started the first fan club for the group in 1993. The club started out small, with just a handful of members around San Francisco. After the band’s first national tour the club grew dramatically, reaching a membership in the thousands.
