needtobreathe started singing at Outsider, a college dive bar. The band was influenced by Ozzy Osborne. needtobreathe’s members met in 1989. The lead singerdiscovered his love of music by listening to his mom's music collection.
needtobreathe’s first album was a dud, but the second finally got some exposure. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather perform in the smaller venues in which they started.
needtobreathe accepted that they could really have a career in music as soon as the band’s first fan club was started in 1984 by Breanda Pillar. The club started out small, with just a handful of members around Los Angeles. After the band’s first national tour the club grew dramatically, reaching a membership in the thousands.
needtobreathe's latest project is the group's first album since the band broke up nine years ago. The group is in the second leg of the tour promoting for their latest release. Members of needtobreathe are expecting to bring in a new audience with this tour and the new release.
Generally, critics have commended needtobreathe for their playfulness with the crowd when they perform live.
