O.A.R. began singing at Chief, a local dive bar. The drummer used to listen to radio constantly as a kid. The bassist was heavily influenced by his family's love for music. O.A.R.’s members grew up together. The band begged the local radio station to play their early songs.
The group has just finished their newest project, and they are planning the next release already. O.A.R.'s latest project has taken the group in a completely different direction, with a less refined sound.
A member of O.A.R. started dating a girl whose grandfatherwas a record executive. She passed the single on to them and the band signed a record deal soon after. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather perform in the smaller bars in which they began.
O.A.R. accepted the fact that their dream of making a life as musicians had come true when Deb Tettleton started a fan club for the group in 1992. After playing from New York to California, the band’s fan club exploded from the handful of fans around Urbana to thousands in every city throughout the country.
