Oblivion Express began playing at the local bar Cafeteria. The lead singer was heavily influenced by his brother's love for music. The guitarist use to listen to tapes constantly as a teenager. Oblivion Express began playing together in 1985. Music of the 1970s heavily influenced the early work of the band.
Oblivion Express were relieved when their single climbed the charts. They had heard too many stories of bands with record deals going nowhere. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in the smaller venues in which they started. Oblivion Express met with a local DJ from Z92.5 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the group. The group's members had horrible jobs when they started playing, just biding time until they would hit the big time.
Oblivion Express realized that they could really have a career in music in 1987, after the group's first fan club was started by Barbara Tomaselli. The fan club received a huge boost after Jenna Jagodzinski designed a website for the band. That coupled with the tour country wide saw the fan club’s official membership reach numbers in the thousands.
Oblivion Express intends to spend some time apart after this next tour, allowing the band members to work on side projects. The group is in the middle of the tour promoting for their latest record. Oblivion Express's most current record is the group's fifth project.
Generally, critics have commended Oblivion Express for their ability to connect with the audience during concerts.
