The members of Olu Dara grew up together. The bassist wanted to start a band since he was in middle school. The bassist use to listen to music constantly as a teenager. Olu Dara started singing at the college dive bar Anyplace. The band used to sell their records out of their car in the school parking lot.

Olu Dara will take some time off after the tour, to allow the band members to work on side projects. The group may have just finished their latest project, but they are already planning the next release.

The years of paying their dues paid off when Olu Dara signed a record deal. The group members quit their other jobs to focus on their record. Olu Dara’s first album was a dud, but the second finally got some exposure. The group does not have a problem selling out any venue now, small or large.

Olu Dara realized that they were truly working musicians after the band’s first fan club was started by Maria Abbey in 1997. Starting out with just a few dozen members in Denver, the fan club quickly grew with group’s national tour and the launching of the band’s website by Barbara Orsino.

The group has a love affair with Tampa so they are sure to stop by and play a show whenever they are touring.
