Oomph! started performing at Attorney, a college club. The bassist was encouraged to play by his middle school teacher. The lead singer wanted to start a group since he was in high school. The members of Oomph! met in grade school. The group was influenced by Aretha Franklin.
Oomph! intends to take some time off after the tour, to allow the group members to pursue other projects. The group is in the middle of the tour promoting for their latest release. Oomph!'s most current record took just one month to record.
Critics have often praised Oomph! for their ability to rile up the crowd when they perform live. A music critic from Pittsburgh, Nathan Ullmann, has always commented on band’s incredibly talented vocals. Oomph!’s newest record has received great praise from all the critics, including Ralph Yeubanks from Seattle and Ivan Kostner from Philadelphia.
Oomph!’s first album failed to sell, but the second album saved them from obscurity. The band really enjoys performing and is playing almost nightly for fans.
Oomph! finally knew they made it after the group’s first fan club was started by Elizabeth Lamango in 1993. The fan club grew quickly from a few dozen members in a few cities to a few thousand nation wide.
Cleveland has always been receptive to the band, even when they were small time, so the group schedules a show there every year, even if they are not touring.
