The band Over the Rhine has been making music since the last fifteen years. This Ohio-based musical band is a duo that comprises the husband-and-wife team of bassist/pianist/guitarist Linford Detweiler and vocalist/guitarist Karin Bergquist. Earlier they worked as a quartet along with guitarist Ric Hordinski and drummer Brian Kelley. However currently Over the Rhine only comprises the married-duo of Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist with "hired guns" on albums and tours. Linford and Karin had met before marriage and later formed the band. The band originated from Cincinnati, Ohio neighborhood Over-the-Rhine. Karin attended school in Barnesville, Ohio and completed her graduation from Barnesville High School in 1984. She further studied at Malone College, situated in Canton, Ohio, where she came across Linford. As their friendship took shape they realized that they shared a common interest. Subsequently formed the band and both toured and recorded at several venues and styles. Throughout this long career they have welcomed various notable musicians, including Bob Dylan, and traveled as "adjunct" members of Cowboy Junkies.

After their formation in 1989, Over the Rhine independently issued their debut album, Till We Have Faces, in 1991. Paste Magazine awarded one of its first five-star reviews to Over the Rhine's 2003 double album Ohio. This hit was released on Virgin Records' Back Porch Records label. In 2005 they came up with their next album, Drunkard's Prayer. In addition that year they also brought out a limited edition live album titled Live from Nowhere, of which Volume One was issued in April 2006. A second limited edition live album, Live from Nowhere, Volume Two came out in March 2007. These were followed by their last release for Virgin/Back Porch Records, called Discount Fireworks. This album was a remake of all of their old hits including one new studio song. Linford has also worked on and issued three solo projects written by home-recorded acoustic, piano-based music. Their upcoming album titled The Trumpet Child is scheduled for release on August 21, 2007. All these years the duo has been very well complementing each other, of which the byproduct are their fabulous recordings and outstanding performances
