Pam Tillis Tickets
Pam Tillis, daughter of country music artist Mel Tillis, is a superstar on her own right. She dons the hat of a singer, actor and a songwriter with great ease. She has not only penned songs for herself but also for other artists from Nashville and beyond.
Tillis was born on July 24, 1957, in Plant City, FL, but was brought up largely in Nashville. Initially she started learning piano at the age of eight, but changed over to the guitar when she was 12. She had a rebellious streak in her right from the beginning. When she was 16 she met with a disastrous accident, but recovered fully. She went on to study music at the University of Tennessee. She also found time to sing with the High Country Swing Band, and in a folk duo with Ashley Cleveland. She left school and worked in her father's publishing company, and also formed her own backing band. She along with the band shifted to the San Francisco Bay Area and named herself Freelight. She eventually returned to Nashville and sang backup for her father all the while she kept penning down songs.
Tillis performed on a regular basis at Nashville's Bluebird Cafe along with many other female singer/songwriters. She eventually signed a deal with Warner Brothers in the early '80s. In 1983 she issued the album, Above and Beyond the Doll of Cutey that was basically replete with pop music. The very next year she tasted success with her maiden chart single the "Goodbye Highway." Many more singles followed the first one, but they were not able to hit the bull’s eyes. Her singles were not successful but she was gaining popularity as a songwriter for Tree Publishing. Highway 101 and Conway Twitty were recording her songs, among others. In between trying to carve out a niche in the music world, Tillis acted in a Tennessee production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Her perseverance paid off and she signed a recording deal with Arista. She issued her first album, Put Yourself in My Place for the label in 1991. The single "Don't Tell Me What to Do," from the album entered the charts and reached at the top five. Other singles such as; "One of Those Things" and "Maybe It Was Memphis" also climbed the charts, which eventually paved the way for the album to climb the charts. The very next year she issued a follow up album, Homeward Looking Angel that also met with great success. The singles; "Shake the Sugar Tree" and "Let That Pony Run" both made it to the Top Five. Her third album, Sweetheart's Dance, which Tillis had co produced went on to become an even bigger hit. The album got for her the ACM's award for Female Vocalist of the Year. The singles "Spilled Perfume," "When You Walk in the Room," and "In Between Dances" all reached Top Five, and "Mi Vida Loca (My Crazy Life)" went on to become her maiden number one hit. Her next album, All of This Love, produced by Tillis herself had hit singles such as; "Deep Down" and "The River and the Highway." After the release of Thunder and Roses Tillis quit her label, and signed up with Epic’s roots subsidiary Lucky Dog.
