Paquita LA Del Barrio started performing at small parties. Kiss heavily influenced the early work of the group. Paquita LA Del Barrio’s members were friends in middle school. The drummer discovered his love of music while listening to his mother's collection of records.

Paquita LA Del Barrio continued to work hard, scared they would just be another one hit wonder. The band continues to play large venues, but still enjoys playing in smaller clubs on occasion. Paquita LA Del Barrio was offered a record contract after playing at at Spectator, a local club. The group group played festivals, parties, bars, really just about anywhere that would take them.

Paquita LA Del Barrio accepted the fact that their dream of making a life as musicians had come true after Deb Menchen started the first fan club for the group in 1981. Starting out in Baltimore with a few dozen members, the club grew fast, eclipsing a couple thousand nation wide in under a year.
