The members of Placebo grew up together. The bassist was encouraged to play by his sibling. Placebo began performing at Baby, a college bar. The band was influenced by Ozzy Osborne.
After paying their dues and opening shows for years, Placebo was signed to a record deal. The band's members all had odd jobs while they worked hard to be known. Placebo’s first album was a dud, but the second finally got some attention.
Placebo accepted the fact that their dream of making a life as musicians had come true in 1984, when the band's first fan club was started by Karen Van Gundy. The fan club quickly grew from a few dozen in Detroit to a few thousand from California to New York.
After this past hectic year the members of Placebo will take some time off to pursue other projects. The group just completed their latest release, and they are already plotting the next move.
