The PovertyNeck Hillbillies have been arising as the greatest new band in the world of country music. They are well renowned for their charismatic, live performances that they present frequently to thousands of fans of all ages. Abby's vocals combines a deep, country sound with a flavor of rock roll gravel, and are backed by strong harmonies in songs like, "She Rides Wild Horses" and "Mr. Right Now." The six-piece band renders the full, impressive music that makes The PovertyNeck Hillbillies unique in their genre.
The band was found in 2000, when fiddle player Chris Higbee came across music fan Chris "Abby" Abbondanza. They shared a common interest and the two started discussing about playing music, and when added mutual friends a band came together. It comprised David Guthrie on guitar, Dave Cramer on keyboards, Jeff Volek on bass and accordion, Bob "Crafty" Crafton on pedal steel, and Ryan Lucotch on drums. Initially they played at local bars around their hometown of Dawson. But it was not until they moved to Pittsburgh that they achieved success. They turned to become a huge attraction in Pittsburgh clubs and won some very dedicated fans in the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers; after performing for fans before various games.
They were taken over as the official band of the Steelers, frequently performing the national anthem. In 2005, the band's self-released debut recording comprising the song "The Hillbilly Way", sold 2,100 copies in Pittsburgh in its first week. Gradually made it to 30,000 by the end of the year. The band's increasing popularity and successful reputation pulled in the attention of independent Nashville label Rust Records, who signed the Povertyneck Hillbillies and issued their self-titled debut album in 2006. The band started touring in promotion of the album.
Producer/manager, Bob Corbin, Kenny Rogers, Hank Williams Jr. and Alabama have stayed with the band since its formation. Bob Corbin is the songwriter behind some of the album's most successful tunes. The album hit stores on June 6th, 2006 and features a two-hour DVD showcasing a live concert, produced by WQED in Pittsburgh. The concert has been in organized rotation on PBS stations in over twenty states across the nation. As regional artists with national radio, television and media appeal, The PovertyNeck Hillbillies are coming up as the country music's fastest flourishing young stars. They have established themselves as one among the most renowned country talents. Their live shows are as appealing as their recordings. One cannot afford to miss those energetic, full of enthusiasm and mind-blowing performances.
