A decade after A Tribe Called Quest, Q-Tip has re-emerged and continues to be a highly influential hip hop artist. The hip hop artist was able to find success after Tribe broke up almost immediately, but has struggled to convince the record companies that he could hold his own in the music industry.

Q-Tip is the stage name of Harlem-born Jonathan Davis, who changed his name to Kamaal Ibn John Fareed after converting to Islam. He has found success as a musician, producer, and actor. His solo album Amplified was a move more mainstream music and peaked at number four on the R&B/Hip Hop charts. His follow up album, Breathe & Stop peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

His follow up album, Kamaal the Abstract was critically acclaimed, but was never released. His latest album, The Renaissance has been held up several times, but will finally be released with much anticipation in 2008.
