Rachelle Ferrell was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and gained success as an American singer and musician. She also registered success in mainstream R&B, pop, gospel, and classical music scene, however, what made her memorable for her contribution to the music was her talent as a contemporary jazz singer. She has been producing the music under the genre of.Jazz. The styles of her music are Adult Contemporary, Crossover Jazz, Contemporary Jazz and Vocal Jazz. She gained utmost popularity in 90s and 00s. Her childhood memories echo in the wide spread area of Pennsylvania, in Berwyn and also in Philadelphia area. She, at present juncture, is based in New Mexico.
Rachelle Ferrell started singing when she was six. She contributed it to the ‘development of her startling six-and-change octave range.’
She has diverse ability to reach the whistle register, as was stated in an editorial review in which she refers to her whistle note in ‘It only took a minute’ as ‘Minnie Riperton-like wailing’. She did take classical training on violin at an early age. Therafter, she started practising to the fullest. By the time she was a teen, she started playing the piano at a professional level.

The jazz singer later on expressed her surprise saying that she was surprised at the reaction, she said she came out with no make up, with wild hair…and the people went crazy! It was a blessing to have people responded that way after being away for such a long time, she added in her comments. Overall, it can be said that Rachelle Ferrell has arrived on the contemporary jazz scene. However, her presence on the pop/urban contemporary scene has made her more famous among the audiences. Rachelle wanted to try to make her mark musically as an instrumentalist and also as a songwriter. Her father bought her a piano in her mid-teens. Rachelle, within six months, secured first professional gig as a pianist/singer. At 13, she was performing as a violinist, in her mid-teens she was a pianist and vocalist. Thereafter, at 18, she enrolled in the Berklee College of Music in Boston to study composition and arranging. In the 1980's and into the early '90's, she worked with top names in jazz, like Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones, George Benson and George Duke. Her debut, "First Instrument," was released in 1990 in Japan only. It was recorded with bassist Tyrone Brown, pianist Eddie Green and drummer Doug Nally, an all-star cast of accompanists.
