Rebirth Brass Band from New Orleans is devoted to preserving the tradition of brass bands while at the same time integrating modern music into its show. The band's heavy funk music has put them among the world’s top brass bands, and they are very popular among the present generation too.

Started by tuba player Philip Frazier, his brother Keith Frazier and trumpeter Kermit Ruffins, in 1983, the Rebirth Brass Band is a New Orleans based band. The band was started at the Joseph S. Clark Sr. High School in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans and the band combines traditional New Orleans brass band music, with the New Orleans tradition of second line with funk, jazz, and soul. The band was quite popular and began to play in and around New Orleans, and steadily rose from the streets of New Orleans and began to perform at theaters and festivals all across the world. Ruffins amicably quit Rebirth in 1992, as he did not want to go with the band on a trip to Africa. Eventually Ruffins went on to form his own band the Barbecue Swingers.

Rebirth has been performing regularly on Tuesday night at the Maple Leaf Bar in New Orleans, and serves as a dependable introduction to the city's nightlife for many newly arrived college students. Rebirth is one of the most popular bands of New Orleans, and regularly hits the road and tours North America and Europe.

In the past 25 years, Rebirth Brass Band has toured, Europe more than 20 times, and has been to Japan four times and was also in Africa for six weeks. The band has also performed in venues along with such artists as; The Grateful Dead, the Meters, George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars, Maceo Parker, Dr. John, The Ohio Players, and a six week tour with Ani DiFranco , it has also performed in every important festival in the US and Europe including New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Roskilde, Glastonbury Festival, Montreaux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival and the Nice (France) Jazz Festival.

The band also has composed two soundtracks for Eddie Murphy’s film Boomerang, and also can be seen in a club scene in the Kate Hudson film Skeleton Key.
