The band Reckless Kelly fronted by brothers Willy (vocals/guitar) and Cody Braun (vocals/fiddle/mandolin/harmonica) was started in 1997. The decade old country-rock outfit has been churning out music that has been well accepted by their fans.

Brothers Willy and Cody Braun were deeply into music and along with their schooling they began to learn the nuances of music with their father Muzzie Braun. The father son trio along with other members of the family used to perform on stage. They began by playing the western swing locally and subsequently they played on the Grand Ole Opry, and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

Being bought up listening to and learning music it was no wonder when the brothers got into rock and roll and formed their own band in high school. The band did not last long and it disbanded. The brothers met Nazz and started a new band that eventually influenced their sound. The band was quite popular and after performing for the last time in the Pacific Northwest, it shifted to Austin, Texas. In their hometown the band was quite popular, but their hometown could afford only monthly gigs in a handful of venues. Austin was a big change, the band if wanted could perform seven nights a week, as there were ample amount of stages. All the members stayed in the same house and ventured out at night to perform gigs. Eventually guitarist David Abeyta and bassist Jimmy McFeeley were added to the line up. In 1998 they released their own maiden album Millican that sold more than 20,000 units. The album was quite popular and the band was slowly but steadily finding its feet in Austin. For three consecutive years the Austin Chronicle named the band “Best Roots Rock Band,” The maiden album was followed by Acoustic: Live at Stubb's and Day, two years later, the albums did reasonably well. After the release of these albums Pollock quit the band and was replaced by David Abeyta on lead guitar. In 2003, the band's next album Under the Table and Above the Sun, was released, which started the band's relationship with the popular Sugar Hill label. The album not only created a ripple with the fans, it also stole the hearts of the music press and honky tonkin' legend Joe Ely. Ely was mighty impressed by the band's performance and made no two bones about it. The band came out with yet another album Wicked Twisted Road in 2005. The very next year the band released the live album Reckless Kelly that had songs from all of their earlier studio records, as well as three covers.
