Robin Williams Tickets
Robin Williams: Background
Robin Williams started his career as a promising actor in 1973, as one of just 20 accepted to Julliard. His teachers were all impressed with his dramatic performances, but not all were convinced his manic comedy was so impressive. He and Christopher Reeves quickly became friends and were both accepted as freshman into the prestigious Advanced Program taught by John Houseman. The legendary teacher was one of those who was impressed and told Robin Williams he should leave the school and start a career as a stand-up comedian.
Taking the advice, Robin Williams left the school and started performing. Early on he did not sell tickets as bright act, but instead performed for tips. His rapid-fire one liners and incredible physical comedy eventually landed him a role on The Richard Pryor Show in 1977. When the show ended its run rather abruptly, he found a guest spot as alien on Happy Days. His popularity from one episode was spun off into its own show, Mork and Mindy. The show ran from 1978-1982 and around the same time Robin Williams’ stand-up career was beginning to take off. He had three specials on HBO, Off The Walls in 1978, An Evening with Robin Williams in 1982, and Robin Williams: Live at the Met in 1986.
He turned his small stage and small screen success into a movie career with the success of Good Morning, Vietnam in 1987. He exploded onto the screen in family friendly films like Hook, Toys, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Aladdin. Eventually Robin Williams made good on his dramatic ability, winning the Bets Supporting Actor award for his role. Since then he has been in film and television in a variety of comedic and dramatic roles, showing his excellent range.
