Ronald Eldon Sexsmith is a very popular and well-loved Canadian singer-songwriter from St. Catharines, Ontario. He has stolen the hearts of not only Canadians but also music lovers all over the world with his Pop Folk music.

Born in 1964 and brought up in the Niagara Falls area, Sexsmith began his first band at the age of 14. Within no time earned his first steady gig at an area club. Initially he began making the rounds on the folk circuit, but soon resolved to concentrate on becoming a songwriter. With songwriting in mind he shifted to Toronto, and started the Uncool band, and issued Out of the Duff, which was followed by There’s a Way, a year later. In Toronto he picked up a job as a courier, and worked towards releasing his album too. Finally in 1991, his album Grand Opera Lane was issued. The album paved his way for better things, and he signed a recording deal and released his eponymous album in 1995. Before his acclaimed Cobblestone Runway in 2002 Sexsmith had issued three albums that had done reasonably well. In 2004 he issued Retriever that had a pop feel to it and was dedicated to Elliott Smith and Johnny Cash. The same year he was asked by Grammy-Award-Winner Bill Frisell to perform at the German RuhrTriennale in the famous concert series Century of Song together with songwriter Jesse Harris. In 2005, he issued a compilation of songs recorded with drummer Don Kerr during the production of Retriever, called Destination Unknown. The same year, he was awarded the Juno Award for songwriter of the year, for the song "Whatever it Takes". His initial five albums can be broadly classified as melancholic pop folk with simple, refined melodies, with emphasized the use of guitars and economic application of other instruments. But his sixth album, Cobblestone Runway, saw a change in his style. Producer Martin Terefe was instrumental in the change of style; one can hear the munificent use of synthesizers in this album. His follow up album, Retriever continued the trend of change, as this album is more poppy. However his last album goes on to show that he has not forgotten his roots in spite of experimenting a bit.
