Ronan Tynan faced with many challenges during his well-documented life, and has hung on to his dreams with tremendous passion and gusto. Tynan is known all over for his unique voice and charisma. Tynan has been conferred with numerous awards and honorary degrees.
Ronan Tynan, MB, BCh, BAO, born in Dublin, Ireland on 1960, is a very popular Irish classical singer who has taken the world by storm. He is well known and remembered for his amazing rendering of God Bless America performed at Yankee Stadium on significant New York Yankee games, such as Opening Day, nationally-televised games, and playoff games. In addition he has also sung for Buffalo Sabres at their hockey games. He also took part in the 1984 Olympics. Initially he started off as a member of the Irish Tenors until he quit to follow his solo career in May of 2004. After quitting the Irish Tenor, he sang "New York, New York" at Belmont Stakes, and not even a week later he sang "Amazing Grace" and Schubert's "Ave Maria" at the National Cathedral for President Ronald Reagan's funeral.
Since birth Tynan, had lower limb disabilities, and to add to it, he had to have both the legs amputated at the age of 20 after a car accident. This did not dither the young man, his will power and determination were strong and within a week after the accident he was climbing stairs at his college dormitory on artificial legs. The same year he went on to participate in the international Paralympics and brought laurels not only for himself but also for his country. He further gained popularity after winning eighteen gold medals and fourteen world records between 1981 and 1984. Tynan created a history by being the first person with a disablement to be accepted to the National College of Physical Education, Limerick. After that he went on to esteemed Trinity College, Dublin and became a physician specializing in Orthopedic Sports Injuries. Apart form sports, Tynan was encouraged by his father Edmund Tynan to study voice. Here too Tynan left his mark by winning a series of esteemed voice competition awards and went on to join the Irish Tenors. Tynan is a heartfelt Roman Catholic, and has appeared on EWTN.
