S. Self began playing at the local dive bar Human. The guitarist used to listen to his sister's CD constantly as a child. The drummer use to listen to tapes constantly as a teenager. The members of S. Self grew up together. The band used to practice at the lead singer's garage.

S. Self plans to take some time off after the tour, to allow the group members to recharge after a long year. The group has just finished their latest album, and they are plotting their next move already. The new album from S. Self is the band's first album in five years.

S. Self’s first release climbed the charts quickly, giving them national exposure. The group plays plenty of arenas, but would rather perform in the smaller clubs in which they began.

S. Self accepted that the possibility of living life as actual musicians was a real possibility in 1978, after Carol Sheffield started the group’s first fan club. The fan club started out small with just a handful of members, generally localized to the area around Sacramento, but the creation the band’s website by Deborah Van Gundy, along with the first real national marketing campaign, saw the membership to grow into the thousands.

S. Self seamlessly blends the songs from the previous project with tracks from their newest project.
