Saffire The Uppity Blues Woman Tickets

The success of the acoustic blues trio, Saffire- The Uppity Blues Women was a dream come true. Throughout their long spanning career they have brought out nine recordings and featured at innumerable gigs. The group achieved success due to sheer hard work and dedication. And today is regarded as one of the most popular, witty, and just plain satisfying acoustic blues groups. The members of Saffire--The Uppity Blues Women comprise Gaye Adegbalola, Andra Faye, and Ann Rabson. These women are charged with passion, dedication, and their material is all a symbol of originality. They are rather the leaders for the original classic uppity blues women like Bessie Smith, Sippie Wallace and Victoria Spivey.

This three-woman blues musical trio belongs to Washington, D.C. The group formed in 1987. Initially Lewis left the band in 1992 and was substituted by Andra Faye. The individual responsibilities include Rabson on piano, vocals and guitar, Adegbalola on vocals and guitar, and Faye on vocals, bass, mandolin, violin and guitar.

Since their formation, their music has reflected a blend of serious blues songs and comedic novelty songs. They perform original songs, and also the music of blues women who have influenced them. These brilliant artists include Big Mama Thornton, Ida Cox and Koko Taylor. Whatever it may be, comedic or serious their music tends to handle feminist themes. This concept has achieved them remarkable popularity even outside of traditional blues circles.

They are renowned for being the first acoustic band to be contracted by Alligator Records. Their albums included Uppity Blues Women (1990), Hot Flash (1991), Broadcasting (1992), Old, New, Borrowed & Blue (1994), Cleaning House (1996), Live & Uppity (1998), Ain't Gonna Hush (2001), and their highly acclaimed album Deluxe Edition released in 2006. Their song "Middle Aged Blues Boogie," composed by Adegbalola, was appointed best original song at the W. C. Handy Awards in 1990. They have also accompanied on stage, famous music icons such as B. B. King, Ray Charles, Willie Dixon and Koko Taylor.

Other than making a successful musical career these women have also contributed for various other activities in life. Gaye has worked as an activist throughout her life. She took part in the Civil Rights Movement. Disillusioned, she got together in the Black Power Movement. For several years, she has worked as a director with Harambee 360ยบ Experimental Theater where her focus was on empowering black youths with confidence through the performing arts. And Andra Faye has made a name for herself as one of the most prolific bass players. They together represent a powerful inspiration for women.
