The members of Secondhand Serenade grew up together. The drummer first found his love of music by listening to his grandmother's collection of records. The bassist use to listen to tape constantly as a child. Secondhand Serenade started playing at Query, a local club. The band used to practice at the bassist's basement.

Even after getting the record deal Secondhand Serenade were not sure if they would make it in the end. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather perform in the smaller bars in which they began. The years of paying their dues paid off when Secondhand Serenade signed a record deal. The group members were happy once they were signed and quit their odd jobs that had supported them while they worked toward their dreams.

Secondhand Serenade accepted that the possibility of living life as actual musicians was a real possibility when the group’s first fan club was started by Jessica Van Gundy in 1988. The fan club grew from a few dozen to a few thousand after Helen DeCambra created a website for the band and a national tour gave the group plenty of exposure.

The most current record from Secondhand Serenade has taken the group in a new direction, with a more complex musical structure. The band is in the first leg of the tour accompanying for their latest release. Secondhand Serenade hope to collaborate with other artists while they are on tour.

Generally, critics have commended Secondhand Serenade for their ability to rile up the audience at live shows. A music critic from Buffalo, Nathan Thomalson, has always been a fan of band’s incredibly talented vocals. Secondhand Serenade’s latest project has received great praise from Ian Oswalt, a music critic out of Austin, and Trent Tomaselli, from Austin.

Cleveland has always been receptive to the band, even when they were small time, so the band schedules a show there every year, even if they are not touring.
