Steve Earle Tickets
Steve Earle has become a celebrated singer/songwriter who known much more for his year round touring and willingness to experiment than any one album. The new troubadour of country and indie music has found an audience with songs that touch the soul or push the political edge. The artist has been a major opponent to the Iraq War and the death penalty. Earle has become such a controversial figure in certain circles that fans were buying tickets to see his shows and a documentary film about him called Just An American Boy.
Steve got his start in the music industry in eighth grade after dropping out of school and moving to Houston to learn more about the music industry. He found his first real job in the business at the age of 20 in 1975 as a songwriter for the Sunbury Dunbar publishing division of RCA.
Eventually one of his songs would become a top ten hit. In 1981 Johnny Lee recorded the popular “When You Fall in Love”. Five years later, Steve Earle was performing his own material on his first album. Guitar Town had critics lauding him as the Bruce Springsteen of country. His rockabilly sound was hoped to carry country out of its dip in popularity. His next two albums, Exit O and Copperhead Road were successes on the country charts, but only made dents in the mainstream charts.
At the same time, Earle was feeding his addiction to heroin. By 1993 he had stopped selling tickets and albums and by 1994 he was in jail. When Steve emerged from prison he was clean and driven to further his music. He did this by escaping the Nashville labels that had him recording country pop-rock and forming his own label. He became free to explore other genres than country, including folk, blue grass, and hard rock.
His albums eventually found a fan base with the country audience again, but he managed to pick up an indie following by the turn of the century. His 2002 release, Jerusalem, was number seven on the country charts and number one on the indie charts. His latest album, Washington Square Serenade hit number 10 on both charts.
The heavy tour schedule of Steve Earle continues into the summer of 2008 as he has announced his second leg. The concerts will start off in Tucson on June 27 and travel through the middle of the country on the way to New York for several shows at the end of September in New York.
