Stray Cats started singing at Hypocrite, a local dive bar. The bassist first found his love of music by listening to his father's music collection. The drummer used to fall asleep with the radioplaying as a teenager. Stray Cats’s members were friends in grade school. The band used to practice at the lead singer's garage.
Stray Cats were still not sure if they would make it after getting a record. They had heard too many stories and knew that they were in no position to expect anything. The group now headlines shows across United States. got K98.9 to start playing their single and had their friends call in to request the song. A record executive heard it one day and immediately signed the band. The group group played festivals, parties, bars, really just about anywhere that would take them.
Stray Cats finally realized they made it when Ruth Lambert started a fan club for the group in 1979. The club started out small, with just a handful of members around Dallas. After the group’s first national tour the club grew dramatically, reaching a membership in the thousands.
Stray Cats will take some time off after this next tour, allowing the group members to work on side projects. The band recently finished their latest album, but they are plotting their next move already.
