The Oak Ridge Boys started performing at the local club Query. The guitarist was heavily influenced by his uncle's love for music. The bassist wanted to start a band since he was in middle school. The members of The Oak Ridge Boys were friends in college. The group used to practice at the bassist's basement.
The Oak Ridge Boys talked to a music director from B102.9 and got their single on air. The girlfriend of a record executive heard the song and soon after The Oak Ridge Boys was signed. The band members were excited that all the small festivals they had played had paid off. After getting the record deal, The Oak Ridge Boys were sure they would make it. The group is on tour constantly, performing before large crowds nightly.
The Oak Ridge Boys finally knew they made it in 1998, after the band's first fan club was started by Debbie Harkenreader. The fan club grew from a few dozen to a few thousand after Deborah Molitor created a website for the band and a national tour gave the band plenty of exposure.
After this last non-stop year the members of The Oak Ridge Boys will take some time off. The band just finished their newest record, but they are already planning their next move.
