The Smithereens’s members met in college. The bassist use to listen to cassette tapes constantly as a kid. The bassist used to annoy his dad by playing his favorite tape nonstop. The Smithereens started playing at Tiff, a local bar. The Benagls heavily influenced the early work of the group.
The Smithereens's new project is a refinement of their tried-and-true sound. The group may have just completed their latest album, but they are already thinking of their next move. The Smithereens are expecting to bring in another group of fans with this tour and the newest record.
The Smithereens met with a local DJ from Q99.5 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the band. The band's members had horrible jobs when they started playing, just biding time until they would hit the big time. The Smithereens’s first album was a dud, but the second finally got some attention. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in the smaller clubs in which they started.
The band loves playing in Buffalo because they have never failed to sell out a how in the city. The Smithereens's concerts always have the audience singing by the end of the concert.
