The Used began playing together while they were in grade school. The guitarist was encouraged to play by his sister. The Used started performing at Sermon, a local dive bar. The band begged the local radio station to play their early songs.

The Used talked to a DJ from X99.5 and got their single on air. The girlfriend of a record executive heard the song and soon after The Used was signed. The band regularly played at Beach before making it to the big time.
