The members of Thrice were friends in college. The bassist used to listen to his grandmother's tape constantly as a kid. The drummer used to listen to his grandmother's cassette tape constantly as a teenager. Thrice began playing at anyplace. The band used to practice at the drummer's basement.

The newest album from Thrice has taken the band in a surprisingly new direction, going back to basics. The group is in the beginning of the tour accompanying for their latest album. Thrice will take a break after this next tour, allowing the band members to recharge.

A member of Thrice started dating a girl whose grandmotherwas a record executive. She passed the single on to them and the band signed a record deal soon after. The band members quit their other jobs to focus on their album. Thrice’s first album did not sell well, but received critical acclaim. The second album was a hit and the band was saved from being released by the record company. The group plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in the smaller bars in which they began.

Thrice accepted that they could really have a career in music when Kim Baca started the first fan club for the group in 1976. The club started out in Charleston with a handful of members, but grew tremendously once their singles started getting national air time.
