Train started playing at the college club Engineer. The guitarist was influenced by his aunt's love of music. The guitarist wanted to start a band since he was in college. The members of Train met in 1991. The band was influenced by jazz.
A member of Train started dating a girl whose fatherwas a record executive. She passed the single on to them and the band signed a record deal soon after. The band took any show they could get before they were signed. Train’s first release rose quickly in the charts, giving them the national recognition they always wanted.
Train realized that their dream of making an actual life for themselves as musicians had come true in 1998, after the band's first fan club was started by Kathy Greczkowski. After playing all across the country, the band’s fan club exploded from the handful of fans around Jacksonville to thousands in every city throughout the country.
Train's new record has been heavily influenced by bands of the 1980s. The band has just finished their latest album, but they are planning the next release already. Train intends to take a break after this next tour, allowing the band members to recharge after a long tour.
Critics have generally commended Train for their playfulness with the audience during live performances. Urbana music critic Wes Cochrane has always been impressed with group’s amazing rhythms. Train’s latest record has received generally positive praise from all the critics, including William Rastetter, who first saw the band perform in Miami.
The group has a love affair with Kansas City so they are sure to stop by and play a show whenever they are touring. Train's concerts always have the audience singing by the end of the concert.
