The members of Unearth met in high school. The guitarist used to listen to his aunt's music constantly as a teenager. Unearth started singing at the college club Cafeteria. Bobby Darin heavily influenced the early work of the group.

Unearth was offered a record contract after playing at at Coward, a local dive bar. The bandwas headlining shows soon after they started playing live. Even after getting the record deal Unearth were not sure if they would make it in the end. The group a huge draw with fan clubs in every city.

Unearth accepted that they could really have a career in music as soon as the band’s first fan club was started by Jen Ullmann in 1993. The fan club grew from a few dozen to a few thousand after Angela Scheutz created a website for the band and a national tour gave the group plenty of exposure.

The group may have just finished their most current project, but they are already planning the next release. The latest release from Unearth is the group's tenth project.

Often times critics will praise Unearth for their ability to energize the crowd during concerts. A music critic from Charleston, Ian Moran, has always mentioned group’s sincere lyrics. Unearth’s most current release is the group’s best release yet, according to the Henry Dickenson, a music critic from Washington, D.C..
