The members of Unheilig met in high school. The bassist was influenced by his sibling's love of music. Unheilig started playing at Radius, a local club. Ozzy Osborne heavily influenced the early work of the band.

Unheilig was discovered while joking around, performing on the street one day. All the members quit their day jobs to focus on their music. Unheilig’s first album did not sell well, but received critical acclaim. The second album was a hit and the band was saved from being released by the record company. The group plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in smaller bars in which they started.

accepted that they had made it when Jenna Hilgendorf started a fan club for the group in 1976. After the band’s first North American tour, the fan club grew from the couple dozen fans who heard the band play around Chicago to the thousands who heard them play from coast to coast.

The new record from Unheilig is the band's tenth project.

The band may have just completed their latest record, but they are thinking of what is to come next. Unheilig plans to take some time off after this next tour, allowing the band members to work on individual projects.

Generally, critics have commended Unheilig for their ability to connect with the crowd during concerts. Champaign music critic Mark Casas has always mentioned band’s vocals. Unheilig’s latest record is receiving excellent reviews from all the critics, including Chad Nassau from Philadelphia and Lane Smith from Sacramento.

Unheilig respects the fact that their fans love their past records, so they go to great effort to incorporate the older hits with the latest ones.
