V. Butusov began performing at the college dive bar City. The lead singerdiscovered his love of music by listening to his father's record collection. The bassist discovered his love of music while listening to his brother's collection of records. V. Butusov’s members met in middle school. The group begged the local radio station to play their song.

V. Butusov's newest record has taken the group in a new direction, with a more complex musical structure. The group is in the start of the accompanying tour for their most current record.

A member of V. Butusov started dating a girl whose grandfatherwas a record executive. She passed the single on to them and the band signed a record deal soon after. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in the smaller clubs in which they started.

V. Butusov knew that their dream of making an actual life for themselves as musicians had come true as soon as the group’s first fan club was started by Debbie Scheutz in 1995. The fan club started out small with just a handful of members, generally localized to the area around Philadelphia, but the creation the band’s website by Shirley Ihnen, along with the first real national marketing campaign, saw the membership to grow into the thousands.

V. Butusov knows to play both the old and the new at their performances.
