Varttina started playing at Artist, a local bar. One of the band's members was encouraged to play by his grandmother. Varttina’s members met in 1981. The band used to practice at the drummer's basement.

Varttina's members see this tour as a chance to expose a whole new audience to their music. The band is in the first leg of the tour accompanying for their new album. Varttina's new record is the group's first release since the band broke up ten years ago.

Varttina met with a local DJ from K102.9 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the band. All the members quit their day jobs to focus on their music. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in the smaller venues in which they started.
