The members of Varukers were friends in college. The group used to sell their CDs out of their van on campus. Varukers began singing at the college dive bar Empathy. The lead singer first found his love of music by listening to his sister's record collection.
Varukers's newest release is the band's first since the band members went to work on independent projects two years ago. The group is in the middle of the promotional tour for their newest project. Varukers's members are expecting to bring in a whole new group of fans with this tour and the newest release.
Generally critics will commend Varukers for their ability to connect with the audience during concerts. A music critic from Orlando, Ethan Jasper, has always been enamored with group’s amazing drummer. Varukers’s new record has received generally positive reviews from Ivan Okerblom, a music critic out of Tampa, and Ed Jasper, from Los Angeles.
Varukers were uneasy after releasing the debut single, but were happy when they heard their music on the radio for the first time. A member of Varukers started dating a girl whose familywas a record executive. She passed the single on to them and the band signed a record deal soon after.
Varukers realized they made it in 1984, as soon as the group's first fan club was started by Anna Quinn. The fan club grew from a few dozen to a few thousand after Helen Van Gundy created a website for the group and a national tour gave the band plenty of exposure.
Varukers realizes that most fans like their past songs, so they use material from older albums and the latest record. The band loves playing in Houston because they played their first sold out show there.
