Vhs or Beta’s members were friends in middle school. Jazz heavily influenced the early work of the band. Vhs or Beta started performing at the college dive bar Hobo. The lead singer used to annoy his brother by playing his favorite record too loud.

Vhs or Beta intends to take a break after the tour, to allow the band members to rest. The group recently finished their new album, and they are already thinking of their next move. Vhs or Beta's latest record has been heavily influenced by R&B artists of the past.

Vhs or Beta were unsure about their music careers with the release of their debut album, and were relieved after their music began climbing the charts ad getting lots of play on the radio. The groupplayed anywhere that would have them in the beginning.

Vhs or Beta knew that they were real working musicians as soon as Kathleen Boughton started a fan club for the group in 1993. The fan club quickly grew from a few dozen in Urbana to a few thousand from coast to coast.
